UniSafe 12kV Compact Metal-Clad Medium Voltage Switchgear (4000A)

Product Description:
STELLAR 12kV compact metal-clad medium voltage switchgear is a European-origin air-insulated switchgear platform with more than 30 years of global service history, upgraded with the latest digital and sensor technologies for the current generation. It is one of the two mainstream air-insulated MV switchgear series originating from major European manufacturers, and delivers stable performance and quality reliability across energy infrastructure, data centers, hospitals, substations, commercial buildings and electronics fabrication facilities.
The design differentiator is the compact 600mm-wide outgoing panel: a line-up of 10 panels saves 25% floor area versus a conventional 800mm KYN-style installation — a decisive advantage where the electrical room square-metre cost is high (data centers, hospitals, urban substations, high-rise buildings). The platform is manufactured to a unified quality standard that has been type-tested and certified in 2021 for local production. It ships to GB, IEC and UL compliance simultaneously, so the same product is bid-eligible for Chinese State Grid tenders, IEC-based international projects and North American UL projects without a separate certification cycle for each market.

Product Details

600mm Panel Width — 25% Footprint Reduction Versus Conventional Panels

Standard 12kV metal-clad air-insulated outgoing panels are typically 800mm to 1000mm wide. This platform delivers the same 12kV / 4000A functional rating in a 600mm-wide standard outgoing panel. Across a line-up of 10 panels, that removes roughly 25% of the switchgear-room floor area — a decisive change on the projects where the electrical room square-metre cost is at a premium. Three examples: data center MV rooms where every square metre of white space displaces revenue-generating IT floor; hospital main distribution rooms competing for space against clinical departments; urban substations built inside city blocks where footprint drives the whole building envelope. The 600mm-wide design is what unlocks these applications.

Integrated Contact Box — Higher Assembly Precision, Stronger Phase Insulation

The primary contact box is manufactured as a single integrated component rather than assembled from separate contact housings on a metallic mounting plate. This changes two things in service. First, dimensional accuracy improves at the contact interface — a manufacturing outcome the trolley alignment and racking reliability depend on. Second, eddy currents that would otherwise flow in a metal mounting plate are eliminated, and phase-to-phase insulation strength increases because there is no metallic barrier fragmenting the insulation path.

Fast Fault-Making Earthing Switch with 3000-Operation Endurance

The earthing switch and closing lock are supplied as an integrated assembly. The earthing switch is rated for 3000 mechanical operations — well above the operational demand of a routine distribution substation — and is designed for fast fault-making onto a short-circuit current, so an operator can safely earth a feeder even if there is uncertainty about whether the circuit has been properly de-energised. The integrated closing lock component removes the mis-operation paths that arise when the earthing switch and its interlock are supplied as separate components.

Premium Vacuum Circuit Breaker with Imported German Vacuum Interrupter

The circuit breaker uses a next-generation vacuum interrupter imported from Germany, with the vacuum bottle embedded in the interrupter pole. The German-origin vacuum interrupter is the reference in the industry for consistency of the vacuum level, contact material and dielectric behaviour across production batches. Together with the mechanism design, this delivers the mechanical endurance and interrupting capacity required for demanding data center, medical and process-critical distribution loads where a breaker failure translates directly into downstream production loss.

IEC 61850 Digital Solution — Smart Sensors and Visual Operation

The switchgear is designed as an IEC 61850-networked device from the panel level. Integrated smart sensor packages read breaker mechanical characteristics, cabinet temperature and switch position. A visual operation panel presents state and control information at each cubicle. Data streams to the station monitoring platform via IEC 61850 messaging, so the switchgear line-up integrates directly into a substation automation system that follows the IEC 61850 station bus architecture — the reference protocol for utility digital substations and the natural fit for data center campus power distribution.

Environmental Range: -25°C Cold-Start, -15°C to +40°C Continuous

Continuous operating range is -15°C to +40°C, with a cold-start capability down to -25°C so the switchgear commissions in unheated electrical rooms during cold winter build-out. Maximum daily average relative humidity is 95%, covering essentially every non-tropical climate. Standard altitude qualification is ≤1000m; installations above 1000m are supported on request with derating documentation. The integrated ventilation and dehumidification detailing keeps condensation off internal insulation surfaces even at the humidity ceiling.

Multi-Standard Compliance: GB, IEC and UL

The platform is manufactured to a unified quality standard and type-tested against Chinese national standards (GB), international IEC standards and North American UL standards simultaneously. Triple-standard compliance is unusual for a Chinese-manufactured 12kV switchgear and unlocks direct participation in three procurement tracks: Chinese State Grid tenders, IEC-based international projects (EU, Middle East, Southeast Asia, Latin America) and UL-based projects for North American data centers and industrial facilities. Type-test reports for each standard are available under NDA before order placement.

Applications: Data Centers, Hospitals, Urban Substations, Commercial Buildings, Electronics Fabs

The application segments that drive most demand for this platform share one property: the electrical room square-metre cost is high, so a 25% footprint saving is a real capital saving. Data centers — MV rooms sit inside the same building as revenue-generating IT floor. Hospitals — MV distribution competes with clinical square metres. Urban substations — building envelope is fixed by the surrounding city block. High-rise commercial buildings — electrical rooms compete with leasable floor. Electronics fabrication facilities — cleanroom-adjacent electrical rooms carry a premium. On any of these projects, the compact platform is the default specification rather than a nice-to-have alternative.

FAQs

What voltage system and applications is this 12kV switchgear designed for?

The assembly is designed for three-phase AC 12kV metal-clad air-insulated distribution at 50Hz or 60Hz. Rated current runs 630 to 4000 A, with short-time withstand 25 to 40 kA / 4s and internal arc withstand 31.5 to 40 kA / 1s. Typical applications include data center MV distribution, hospital main power distribution, urban substations, high-rise commercial buildings, electronics fabrication facilities, power plants, renewable energy plants and chemical process facilities.

How much floor space can we actually save versus a conventional 800mm-wide 12kV panel?

A conventional 12kV metal-clad outgoing panel is 800 to 1000 mm wide. This platform delivers the same functional rating in a 600 mm-wide standard outgoing panel. Across a line-up of 10 panels, the saving is around 25% of switchgear-room floor area. On a data center MV room, a hospital main distribution room or an urban substation — where every square metre of electrical room displaces higher-value floor use — this is a decisive capital-cost saving, not a minor efficiency.

What ambient conditions and altitude is the switchgear qualified for?

The continuous operating range is -15°C to +40°C, with cold-start capability down to -25°C for unheated electrical-room commissioning in cold climates. Maximum daily average relative humidity is 95%. Standard altitude qualification is ≤1000m; installations above 1000m are supported on request with a derating note in the technical file. Integrated ventilation and dehumidification details keep condensation off internal insulation surfaces even at the humidity ceiling.

What does IEC 61850 compliance deliver at the switchgear level?

IEC 61850 is the reference standard for utility digital substations and the natural fit for data center campus power. At the switchgear level, IEC 61850 compliance means the panel-level sensor data (breaker mechanical characteristics, cabinet temperature, switch position, cubicle-level visual operation status) is exposed on the station bus using standard IEC 61850 messaging. The switchgear integrates directly into the site substation automation system without a protocol converter or a bespoke interface, which is a real time and risk saving on commissioning.

Is this switchgear certified for North American projects requiring UL compliance?

Yes. The platform is manufactured to a unified quality standard and type-tested against GB (Chinese national), IEC (international) and UL (North American) standards simultaneously. Triple-standard compliance is unusual for a Chinese-manufactured 12kV switchgear and unlocks direct bid participation on North American data center and industrial projects where UL is a hard specification requirement. Type-test reports for UL are available under NDA before order placement.
